Intraoperative Monitoring Physicians and Neurodiagnostic Technicians

1. Qualifications and Training. Physician will have substantial professional experience in the providing intra-operative monitoring services. Physicians shall provide all Services according to generally accepted professional practice, in a competent manner consistent with the body of knowledge and practical application of intraoperative monitoring and other related services, in full observance of all appropriate conduct and decorum and in full cooperation with physicians, nurses and other supervisory, coequal or subordinate personnel and physician shall observe all applicable laws, rules and regulations and all rules, regulations and policies and procedures now or hereafter adopted by Facility including but not limited to vaccination requirements.

2. All Monitoring Physicians are required to be credentialed, according to Facility procedures and requirements, to perform Services at Facility. In addition, all Monitoring Physicians satisfy the following requirements:

Monitoring Physician has never been:

a) Subject to a restrictive covenant or other non-compete that would restrict the Monitoring Physician from performing the Services required under the terms of this Agreement;

b) Debarred, suspended, declared ineligible or excluded from Medicare,

Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs or procurement programs

c) Required to pay civil monetary penalty under §1128A of the Social Security Act, or the subject of any proceeding that may result in such a payment;

d) Reprimanded, sanctioned or disciplined by any State licensing board or specialty board and that Monitoring Physician’s license to practice medicine in any state or DEA registration has never been suspended, restricted, revoked or relinquished in lieu or midst of investigation;

e) Denied membership or reappointment of membership on the medical staff of any hospital, and Monitoring Physician’s medical staff membership or clinical privileges have never been suspended, curtailed or revoked involuntarily or voluntarily relinquished under threat of disciplinary action relating to competence or professional conduct

f) Convicted of:

a. any offense related to the delivery of an item or service under a governmental or government-supported health care program;

b. a criminal offense relating to neglect or abuse of patients in connection with the delivery of a health care item or service;

c. fraud, theft, embezzlement or other financial misconduct in connection with the delivery of a health care item or service;

d. obstructing an investigation of any crime referred to above; or

e. unlawful manufacture, distribution, prescription or dispensing of a controlled substance.

g.) All Monitoring Physicians will have plenary professional licenses as required by the State of New Jersey and will have completed a neurophysiology fellowship or are board certified in neurophysiology.

h.) Monitoring Physicians will not read more than six cases concurrently.

i.) Monitoring Physicians must be able to confirm baseline measures with technologist as noted in Exhibit B.

 

 

EXHIBIT B

 

Neurodiagnostic Technicians QUALIFICATIONS AND FUNCTIONS

 

Primary Job Functions

 

1. Perform all aspects of EEG, Evoked Potential and EMG monitoring in the operating room while neurosurgical, orthopedic, vascular or any other procedures are ongoing where neurological structures that are amenable to monitoring are at risk for injury. This includes but is not limited to:

a. Assist the surgeon to explain monitoring to patients pre-operatively;

b. Apply necessary electrodes in accordance with AEEGS guidelines for the modality of testing required by the procedure being performed, then remove electrodes at the end of procedure;

c. Describe ideal and acceptable anesthesia protocols to the anesthesiologist;

d. Operate and control monitoring equipment including montages, stimulus levels, durations and rates, time bases, gains and sensitivities;

e. Identify and eliminate electrode and excessive stimulus artifact in order to obtain optimal responses.

 

2. Accurately describe results of monitoring to surgeons, anesthesiologists and other members of the surgical team during the surgery.

 

3. Document monitoring procedure for billing and risk management purposes.

 

4. Perform routine calibration and maintenance of equipment.

 

5. Know and comply with federal, state, local and Facility policies and procedures related to operating room procedures (e.g. electrical safety, patient safety, OSHA, standards of sterilization and sterile procedures, etc.)

 

6. Validate baseline measures prior to the start of surgery and confirm acknowledgment of same by the supervising neurologist and will confirm in real time connectivity and baseline measures.

 

Job Qualifications

 

Mandatory

 

● Ability to perform required tests and accurately describe findings

● Allied Health Degree or bachelor’s degree

● Certification in or eligibility for Certification in Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring (CNIM)*

 

Desired

 

● Master’s degree or higher, preferably in the health sciences

● Diplomate in or eligibility for Diplomate the American Board of Neurophysiologic Monitoring (D.ABNM)**

 

 

*CNIM requires a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 100 cases monitored and passing a comprehensive written exam

**D.ABNM requires a masters degree, a minimum of 300 cases monitored, 3 years of field experience, 2 surgeon’s letters of recommendation, and a comprehensive written and oral exam
